As a child I remember peering over my mothers table watching her bake away, listening and learning from all the little tips and tricks she had learned as a child doing the exact same thing. After years of observing and at most letting me roll a cookie ball, she finally handed over the mixer and let me give it a try. I’m sure my mom regretted that day because ever since all I wanted to do was bake. In no time our tiny 3 person family was surmounted by sweet treats, and it’s a miracle that none of us made it to 300 pounds!
Believing it was just a hobby, I went off to University to study science with a major in microbiology. Even while busy with school, I would find myself with insatiable urges to bake. Often I would make more treats than my boyfriend Ben and I could eat, so I started using the excuse of making cupcakes for gifts and to take to work on an almost weekly basis. My wonderful friend Allison has said on several occasions that it was foolish of me to be studying science when baking entertains me so.
Finally one weekend Ben convinced me to register a business name, and here I am today. I certainly have some ways to go before my cupcakery is up and running, but I am beyond thrilled that my hobby turned dream is now becoming a reality.
